[Evolution-users] Stuck opening folder

Evolution 3.46.4.2 in Debian 12 is stuck opening a folder, and
"checking for new mail in 'Storage.'" The folder it's trying to open is
in the Storage "account." Storage is an MH-Format archive on my local
disk. It's MH format because I switched from EXMH to Evolution about
thirty years ago. Why is Evolution checking for new mail in an MH-
format archive?

I pushed the little buttons consisting of a circle with red dots in
them in the bottom pane to cancel them. Now they say "(calcelling)" but
they never finish — I've waited three days so far. If I kill evolution
(either with the "quit" button at the top right or Alt-Q or by sending
"kill -9"), when it restarts it starts looking for new mail and trying
to open the same folder.

Is this "memory" of unfinished work stored somewhere that I can delete?
