Solved the WebKitGtk crash problem:

sudo apt install libjavascriptcoregtk-4.1-0:amd64=2.48.5-1~deb13u1
libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0:amd64=2.48.5-1~deb13u1

Do NOT install version 2.50

Thanks to all the correspondents for pointers about what to look for.
The Google AI helper was actually very helpful too.
