Perhaps. It feels... too coincidental to be related but coincidences
happen! And the details I provided about the behavior don't seem to
align with this idea. It doesn't always happen; it will happen in a
given folder for a while, then there won't be any problem in that
folder for a while. It doesn't feel like any sort of predictable
timeout value.
Also, if I switch away from the folder all the messages are immediately
deleted, which implies some action by Evolution forced the delete.
I guess I can move back to the previous version of Evo and see if I
still see this behavior.

I did check my settings, including Show Deleted Messages, and wasn't
able to detect any change from what I expect (e.g., Show Deleted
Messages is not selected).
