	Hi,
20k messages is literally nothing. One of my largest folders has
currently 252042 messages, a single IMAP folder, which I visit several
times a day. That account has tens of folders, though not with that
many messages (the evolution-list folder has 36706 messages here).

I do not think use of POP will help anything, it'll make things worse
technically, for you. See my reply to your "Changes in sending function
in 3.58.0 ?", let's find the root cause of the (connection?) slowness,
rather than trying to workaround it.
