Sendmail is the full mailer daemon. The usual substitutes are Postfix
and EXMH (others are available). In term of what the OP is asking, this
is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
SendEmail is currently supported on Fedora, not discontinued. If Debian
doesn't have it, that's another matter. There are a number of
alternatives but I haven't needed to look for one.
