	Hi,
I'm not sure how to answer this. I think the best is to try it. I won't
say it's anyhow different from Thunderbird when creating a new mail
message, you just type few letters (3 at least), then the
autocompletion steps in and tries to help you.

If you mean some other way of search, like not when creating new
messages, then you switch to View->Window->Contacts, aka Ctrl+2, where
you manage the contacts. There is a Search field above the list of the
contacts, similar as in the Mail view above the message list, where you
can search by various conditions. You can click the magnifier icon on
the left of the Search entry to change the conditions. That's also
nothing really different from other apps.
