Not unusual. Many scripts assume that the mailer daemon is called
'sendmail', so alternatives such as Exim or Postfix can generally work
as drop-in replacements at the command-line level.
However, this has nothing to do with the question I originally
answered, which amounts to "how do I send an email from the command
line?". I mentioned SendEmail (*not* 'sendmail') and other responders
chipped in with alternative suggestions.
Configuring Exim (or sendmail, or postfix) is a completely different
topic.
