the output from the commands looks as expected. The calendar warnings

You mentioned the Evolution window shows up, it only does not open the
composer, right? When you run from a terminal:

   evolution mailto:user at no.where\?subject=hello\&amp\;body=world

will it open a partially filled composer window?

And this:

   echo attachment>/tmp/a.txt; \
	evolution mailto:user at no.where\?attach=/tmp/a.txt

which should open the composer with one attachment.

It would be good to know what the apps pass to the evolution, but I do
not know how to easily get that information.
