The GOSCON 2007 program is nearly complete, with an amazing range of
topics and projects reporting in. Here are a few session highlights:

Open Standards and Open Source: Taking a Closer Look
Andrea Di Maio, Vice President, Gartner Research
Open standards and open source software reduce vendor lock in, but
few government IT organizations understand what full openness
entails. This controversial presentation dispels myths and provides
advice about how to reap benefits and avoid the risks of openness.

Starting a State Government Open Source Project
Tom Cort, Systems Developer, Vermont Department of Taxes
Getting open source software into government is hard enough, but
getting open source software out of government is ever harder. This
session will discuss the benefits of releasing source code to the
public and explain the process of starting a state government
maintained open source project.

Top 5 Mistakes to Avoid in the Migration to Open Source
Andy Astor, CEO, Enterprise DB
This presentation will detail a best-practices approach to enterprise
adoption of open source software. In particular, five common
migration mistakes and recommendations for successfully avoiding them
will be highlighted.

Bridging the Gap Between Citizens and State Government
Brent Hoffman, General Manager, Nebraska.gov
Brent will detail his experience utilizing popular open source
projects such as SugarCRM to track constituent inquiries and
streamline response times for the state of Nebraska and Kansas.
