All-
Finally after some hard work, we have the QS20 Cell BE architecture
ready for use by the public. They are setup similar to the current
Power5 (aka, hazelnut), with the exception that they're running Fedora
8. The reason for running Fedora 8 was mainly because it has a more
stable platform than Gentoo on the QS20 and the Cell SDK that IBM
releases is built for Fedora specifically.
I'm still working out the details of the machines, but you can check out
the website [1] for some information. Here's some notes I haven't put on
the website yet:
* We have two blades for use with open development
* /home will be on an NFS share from the Power5 (hazelnut)
* /data/$user is available if someone wants to use the local disks
instead
* Cell SDK is installed for your pleasure
Be warned, the local disk IO on these machines are horrible which is the
primary reason I wanted to push /home on NFS.
If you'd like to gain access to the QS20's, please send a standard
request through the website [2]. If you already have an account on
hazelnut, we don't need your ssh key again. We'll just add an LDAP flag
which will give you access to the machine.
If you have any questions, please let me know!
Thanks-
