The answer seems to be "Yes". In fact, the original recovery image
cannot load the RC1 image, and the RC1 recovery cannot load the original
image.

After loading the original recovery I was able to go back to Replicant 6.0.

Is it expected that recovery is not backwards/forwards compatible?
