Maybe it's related to the change from SIM cards to UICC cards?[1]

The modem writes some data to nv_data.bin so it's not a problem if they
are different. To find out if the EFS is corrupted you could try to see
if the IMEI is valid and/or correspond to the one written in the
battery compartment / under the battery.

Note that there are two copies of the modem data in the EFS partition,
so if some data is really corrupted, it might be possible to find
uncorrupted data in your backup or in the second copy of the modem data.

It does has 3G support.

What Replicant version are you running? Replicant 6.0 up to 0003
(included) had a bug that resulted in some SIM cards not being
detected. That bug was fixed in Replicant 6.0 0004.

So if you don't have the 0004 version, upgrading might fix the problem.
