That's not a problem.
Android 2.2 requires 2d acceleration, which can be done by the
framebuffer driver, if the driver and the device support it.

For the HTC dream and the nexus one I used free 2d acceleration from the
framebuffer, and it works pretty well.
Of course some 3d games are too slow to be playable(like replica island)
with this system, but at least we have an usable free phone with that
system.
And for games,I hope it get fixed with port of free software high
quality games,that don't depend on 3d but that depend on SDL(which
doesn't redraw the complete frame each redraw, if I remember well).
An example is warmux...it's playable on the nexus one if you forget
about the sound lag(maybe it could be fixed with a setting).
