Did you look at https://tox.chat ?
No proprietary code or service.

There is Antox (Android client), it should work for chatting even though
it looked quite alpha last time I checked.
Some day audio/video is expected be added there.

Under non-Android Linux and Windows tox seems to be quite good.

One nice point with tox is that you avoid the need for third party
registries and servers (who among other things know who and when talked
to whom from where, when you woke up and similar).
