[Replicant] Using signal/textsecure

Thanks very much indeed for all of the responses. I love the free
software world :)

The useability of using your phone's address book and phone number
for the account makes a real difference for non-techies, hence why I
didn't want to just do some ordinary XMPP client. I know about
things like Tox, and I am very happy that it exists and hope that it
(or something like it) becomes the way communication like this
happens in the future, but for now it isn't quite a WhatsApp killer,
which is what I'm after.

Laura, thanks so much for suggesting Kontalk, it looks perfect for
me. I'm very pleased to hear you've transitioned some non-geek
contacts from whatsapp to it; I will start doing that tomorrow and
see how it goes :)

I did get Signal installed from the repository I mentioned earlier,
but it didn't seem to be receiving SMS messages properly (I don't
care if it does or not, but it is designed to integrate such that it
should, so that was actually quite not-great). But running
non-supported unofficial builds which the main developers are
borderline hostile towards isn't really ideal, so I am very excited
about trying Kontalk instead.

You folks are great.

Nick

P.S. Thanks John Sullivan for badgering the Whisper people. You seem
to be good at finding the right ways to lean on people to do the
right thing :)
