[Replicant] Galaxy Nexus Root Access

Hello,

I am trying to gain root access on the Galaxy Nexus in order to eventually
install Replicant on it. I am following the ADB wiki (
https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/ADB). I installed ADB
on the computer, and I am able to access the device shell using "adb
shell". Yet, I cannot find the root access option in the developer options
in the phone's settings. What have I missed?

Also, once in the device shell, how does you exit it? Do you simply
disconnect the USB cable from the computer?
